Morning Light

I love sunrises. The problem is one has to wake up very early, have an unobstructed view of the sunrise, and pray that the weather is fine and dandy.

I have always imagined playing the piano on an early morning where the sun rises. It just gives me a very wonderful and refreshing feeling. In reality, I knew that this wish of mine would not be easy to fulfill (because you had to wake up early, have an unobstructed view of the sunrise, and pray that the weather is fine and dandy, and yes, you have to lug a piano along).

I set out to write ‘Morning Light’, imagining I was playing the piano on this beautiful sunrise morning. A few years later, I had the opportunity to perform this song in front of an audience, and I shared with them that same wish, laughing away as I talked about it.

Then one fine day, my colleague Nikos came to me and said,” why don’t you just do it?!” That got me really thinking, ok, how am I supposed to do this? The answer was simple: just do it.

To cut a long story short, I woke up very early, found an unobstructed view of the sunrise, prayed that the weather was fine and dandy, and together with my mum and Nikos,
transported a super heavy 88-key digital piano, stand, bench, amplifier, recording equipment, cameras, tripods, accessories, cables, etc. to this beautiful spot and played away (of course, I had to first seek permission from the authorities do so, ie. get a licence).

After all is said and done, my dream to play the piano on an early morning where the sun rises came true. There you go, the value of persistence. 🙂
